Distributivity and associativity in effect algebras

چکیده
We prove “large associativity” of the partial sum in effect algebras and present an overview of distributivity-like properties of partial operations ⊕ and in effect algebras with respect to (possibly infinite) suprema and infima and vice versa generalizing several previous results.

Effect Algebras and Ring-like Structures
The dichotomic physical quantities, also called propositions, can be naturally associated to maps of the set of states into the real interval [0,1]. We show that the structure of effect algebra associated to such maps can be represented by quasiring structures, which are a generalization of Boolean rings, in such a way that the ring operation of addition can be non-associative and the ring mult...
متن کاملDistributivity versus Associativity in the Homology Theory of Algebraic Structures
While homology theory of associative structures, such as groups and rings, has been extensively studied in the past beginning with the work of Hopf, Eilenberg, and Hochschild, homology of non-associative distributive structures, such as quandles, were neglected until recently. Distributive structures have been studied for a long time. In 1880, C.S. Peirce emphasized the importance of (right) se...

LetA be a finite-dimensional commutative algebra over the complex numbers, with identity element e. Thus A is a finite-dimensional complex vector space equipped with an additional binary operation of multiplication which satisfies the usual rules of associativity, commutativity, and distributivity, and e is a nonzero element of A such that e x = x for all x ∈ A. As a basic class of examples, on...
متن کاملOn the Complexity of the Tiden-Arnborg Algorithm for Unification modulo One-Sided Distributivity
Equational unification is central to automated deduction and its applications in areas such as symbolic protocol analysis. In particular, the unification problem for the theory AC (“Associativity-Commutativity”) and its extensions ACI (“AC plus Idempotence”) and ACUI (“ACI with Unit element”) have been studied in great detail in the past. Distributivity (of one binary operator over another) has...
متن کاملGeometric Presentations for Thompson’s Groups
Starting from the observation that Thompson’s groups F and V are the geometry groups respectively of associativity, and of associativity together with commutativity, we deduce new presentations of these groups. These presentations naturally lead to introducing a new subgroup S• of V and a torsion free extension B• of S•. We prove that S• and B• are the geometry groups of associativity together ...
